Review: CANMAKE Stay-On Balm Rouge in #08 Juicy Peony

♫ 伍家辉 - 很自己

Continuing with my CANMAKE review series, today I'll be introducing a new (and current favourite) lip product!

CANMAKE Stay-On Balm Rouge
The Stay-On Balm Rouge series has been part of Canmake's lip product range since they were introduced in Malaysia last year. This year, in addition to the original 7 shades, they have released a new shade for Autumn 2014 called #08 Juicy Peony, which is described as 'an eye-catching vivid pink'.

What makes this particular 'balm rouge'? Well, you get he moisturizing ability of a lip balm, the color of a lipstick, the sheen of a gloss, plus UV protection… all in one handy little twist-up tube!
Lip Colour: Provides your lips with a kiss of colour and lustre, from gentle nudes and sweet pinks to vivid scarlets.
UV Shield: SPF 11+ PA protects against ultraviolet rays that cause dryness, chapping, and dullness.
Moisture Charge: Contains beautifying and moisturizing agents (shea butter, honey, jojoba oil, rosehip oil, macadamia nut oil, etc) to keep your lips plump, soft, and moist.
Light Texture: Applies smoothly without the need for lip balm, creating a thin film that clings flexibly to your lips, for a comfortable, non-sticky feeling that lasts.

CANMAKE Stay-On Balm Rouge in #08 Juicy Peony
Packaging-wise, the Canmake Stay-On Balm Rouge is pretty and practical. It comes in a plastic tube with a gold plastic cap, and uses a twist-up mechanism for the balm. The label is printed directly onto the plastic (so no worries about it peeling off) and features a vintage floral design along with the product name, shade and other information in Japanese that I cannot understand. (⌒_⌒;)

It swatches very sheer on my arm, even with 2 layers, but on the lips it shows up pretty much like the colour in the tube. Nevertheless, you can see that it gives a glossy sheen.

Swatch on arm - 2 layers
On the lips, the balm rouge shows up quite similar to the colour in the tube, giving my lips a nice pink shade with a nice glossy lustre. Not exactly a MLBB (my lips but better) shade, but a nice dolly pink that's noticeable but not too bright. It feels very light on the lips, like a lip balm, but with the pigmentation of a (slightly sheer) lipstick. It's totally fragrance-free, and doesn't feel greasy or sticky. You won't even notice it's on your lips after a while.

Lip swatches
In addition to the positive aspects I've mentioned, probably the best point of this lip product is the fact that it doesn't show or emphasize dry lips or lip lines, and helps to soothe and moisturize your lips! (◕‿◕✿)

Despite its claims of being 'an eye-catching vivid pink', which is is, I would say #08 Juicy Peony is more of a daytime work/play shade rather than a day-to-night kind of colour. I've read a few other reviews, and if you're looking for darker shades that can transition from morning to evening, you should check out #03 Tiny Sweetpea and #07 Dancing Camellia. For those who love soft nude, coral and pink tones, the other shades are worth a try. ;)

✓ Pros: Moisturizing, glossy, UV protection, pigmented, fragrance-free, pretty and convenient packaging, doesn't show lip lines or dry lips, non-greasy, non-sticky.
✗ Cons: (I want to say none, but it's rather more pricey here compared to the original price in Japan)

The Canmake Stay-On Balm Rouge retails at RM 49.90; CANMAKE cosmetics are sold at SaSa stores nationwide. You can also check out Canmake Malaysia's Facebook and Instagram for latest updates and promotions.

It is impossible to say no to a product with a name like Juicy Peony!

Oh dear, RM 49.90?. That is one hell of a markup! But it's better than NOT having Canmake at all~

the sheen is so soft and it makes your lips look so luscious and healthy :D i wish the price would not exceed RM35 though, RM49.90 is too darn expensive for a drugstore brand colored lip balm :(

erm quite pricey and the colour a bit too soft and sheer....i think if add another gloss layer on top it will look good!

Blair: IKR! But it's really quite a difference from the price in Japan... Oh well, buying Japanese magazines from Kino is basically the same thing so yeah. ^^;; I agree, better to have it (albeit more exp) than not having it at all. Like Rimmel T_T

Mieza: I guess the increased price is due to import and stuff. Japanese makeup (and stuff in general) is always more expensive when sold outside of Japan. T_T It feels extremely moisturizing though, and the pigmentation is quite good, so I guess it'll be okay for a splurge. XD

Cindy: Yea a bit pricey but it's more opaque IRL... My camera washed out the colour but on my lips it's a very pinky colour. :D
